    Description

This is a complete kit for re-sealing the cloth surrounds used on early acoustic suspension speaker woofers manufactured by Acoustic Research, Altec, KLH and other speakers. For a number of years we had sold it only upon direct request. We now have sufficient quantity to list it in our store.
We are getting reports that some KLH surrounds and other brands are very porous. It is not possible for us to know how much sealant will be required for your surrounds other than Acoustic Research which usually requires just one coat.  If you have more than one pair of surrounds to treat, you may want to consider our LARGE container.
    This is only avai
lable in clear. The clear will reactivate the black color if the original was black.
The kit includes; a container of sealant, an application brush and experience based instructions. One kit is sufficient to seal 2-4 large AR surrounds depending on the surrounds' condition. Sealed in the glass container, the material will last months for future use.
It is chemically very similar to the compound originally used by these manufactures.
Developed and tested for several years in consultation with senior AR fans with close ties to the original AR corporation.
It will serve to reactivate the original surround treatment, which is often dried out, cracked and porous after decades of use, providing the superior bass response acoustic suspension speakers are noted for.
Woofers used in “acoustic suspension” designs must be very compliant, and the cabinet must be relatively airtight. Unfortunately, in recent years, many woofers have been ruined by well meaning “restorers” as they attempted to seal porous woofer surrounds through the application of various materials such as glues and caulking compounds, many ending up at VINTAGE-AR for repair.
From a few of our customers:
It worked well Larry. Bass is definitely punchier and better defined. Thanks.
Sweetest sound with my KLH Six'es now, thank you!
