Infinity Kappa 8 Speakers Rebuilt Polydome Mids/Woofers Refoamed/New Dustcaps

Description

The Infinity Kappa 8 was introduced in 1988 and produces the true Infinity sound of the upper level Infinity models from previous generations.  The most impressive part of this achievement is Infinity utilized technology and engineering advancements to perform this feat.  Even the unique design of the American Oak cabinets with ribbed sides and rounded edges diffuses sound as opposed to reflecting sound. The slanted stance supplied by the built in pedestals emits sound closer to listening levels.   Each driver was designed specifically for the Kappa series to perform a specific function.  The Kappa 8 is a four way five speaker system with four drivers in a vertical array on the front baffle.  The 12" IMG woofer is built into its own enclosure inside the cabinet.  The cone is comprised of a combination of injection molded polypropylene and graphite on a cast aluminum basket with oversized voice coil. The 5" Polygraph midbass driver has a dome created by plastic and graphite mold injection with graphite support bracing on the outside of the dome. The 3-inch polypropylene dome midrange and a pair of the company`s famed EMIT K tweeters complete the system.  One tweeter is at the top of the front array at ear listening level and one is on the rear baffle.  There are also acoustic tone control levels on the rear crossover plate.  The two sets of five way binding posts allow for bi-amplification of these speakers.   An 'emergency' bass cutoff switch is located on the crossover plate as well.  This toggle switch reduces the lowest bass response without altering the frequency balance of the system. The emergency switch also reduces the current necessary to drive the woofer, allowing more versatility with amplifier selection. This pair was obtained from the original owner.  The Polydome mid was rebuilt by Bill Legall of Millersound and the woofers were refoamed with Infinity specific surrounds from Rick Cobb.  New dust caps were also installed.  The tone level controls have been cleaned.  They are in nice cosmetic condition with minimal scratches and blemishes.  The original grill cloth has some snags and blemishes.  Both badges are intact.  The dimensions of these speakers are 47.5"H X 20.5" X 6.5" and weigh 90 LBS. each.  These are large heavy speakers.  Local pick up or personal delivery would be ideal to avoid potential damage by the shippers.  Vintage audio equipment is sold as is with no warranties or returns.  Any issues or problems with any equipment will be clearly described in the listing.  Study the photos to evaluate the condition of equipment.  Please contact me with any issues regarding performance, shipping damage, etc. before a case is opened through Ebay.  All packages will be insured and packed for safe delivery.
