    Description

Very good classic speaker, that is still very good today.
RS 111b Reference speakers. Condition is "Used". I am the original owner and had them rebuilt about 10 years ago. Speaker sound awesome and the cabinets are in impeccable condition.
The 1980’s represents the peak of classic speaker designs. This is the era before psychological audio perception designed speakers. During this era, speaker performance was more than just judgmental listening, measurement were attempted to quantify their behavior. True, all speakers new and old are at the mercy of room acoustics, specifications were presented to give the consumer some indication of what they might expect or hope for. But don’t let me imply listening is secondary; no it’s the reason why you buy speakers.
The Infinity RS lllb is an acoustic suspension design. Primarily, acoustic suspension speakers are targeted towards conce
rt/jazz sounds. So unless you are expecting booming distorted bass, these older design speakers will do quite well with classic rock. Accurate acoustic reproduction was the goal of these designs. You should be able to guess by now that I like acoustic suspension speakers over most other designs.
The big killers of these types of speakers are their size and cost. That’s why they have all but disappeared from market place. If you have a multimedia room, then you are good to go. How big you say? Each RSlll is about 48 inches tall, and weighs not quite 70 lbs.
The RSllls have a stronger bass (as expected), but they also seems to have a stronger midrange (why?). All speaker controls were set to midrange. Placement was exactly the same in the room. The same class A power amplifier was used as the driver.
The RSlllb’s are a delight to listen to. The top side of the frequency response of these speakers are way beyond normal hearing (32KHz -3db point), but I swear that because of this extended frequency response, there is an unquantifiable crispness to the sounds. The low end of the frequency response extends down to 35 Hz (-3db). You really don’t need a subwoofer unless you are playing movies that have low frequency sound effects. The audio imaging is very good. These speakers can recreate the ambience of a studio or concert hall. Each speaker has a tweeter and midrange adjustment controls.
