This hand colored glass slide is an ORIGINAL and it is NOT a reproduction. It was created to be projected onto the movie theatre screen before the film was released to promote the "coming attraction". Some people in the movie collectible world have said, that, glass slides are much rarer than the paper poster memorabilia from the same film and are very rare pieces of film history.
Format:
Glass Slide: 3 1/4" x 4"
Plot Summary:
Scat Sweeney, and Hot Lips Barton, two out of work musicians, stow away on board a Rio bound ship, after accidentally setting fire to the big top of a circus. They then get mixed up with a potential suicide Lucia, who first thanks them, then unexpectedly turns them over to the ship's captain. When they find out that she has been hypnotized, to go through a marriage of convenience, when the ship reaches Rio, the boys turn up at the ceremony, in order to stop the wedding, and to help catch the crooks.
Trivia
:
In the meat freezer scene there is a large side of meat labeled "Crosby Grade A Stables." Bing Crosby owned a stable of race horses that famously performed poorly.
Contains one of the earliest (and repeated) uses of the word 'groovy' in film, predating its 1947 use in advertising spots for the film 'Miracle on 34th Street'.
Hiding in the lifeboat, Bob Hope is polishing his trumpet and says "You happy little Grable bait". Heartthrob Betty Grable married trumpeter Harry James in 1943.
The fifth of the seven Bob Hope and Bing Crosby "Road" films. Dorothy Lamour co-starred with them in the first six but was replaced by Joan Collins in the last, "Road to Hong Kong."
The gag in which Bob Hope and Bing Crosby pose as barbers and accidentally shave the gangster's mustache off is copied from the 1931 Marx Brothers' film "Monkey Business," made by the same director, Norman Z. McLeod.

More Info on Bing Crosby
:
Bing Crosby was born Harry Lillis Crosby in Tacoma, Washington in 1903, in a large working class family. He got the nickname "Bing" when he was 10. He went to college, intending to become a lawyer, but he joined a local band as a drummer, and he quit school in his last year. In 1926, he was spotted by
Paul Whiteman
, and was hired, along with his partner, Al Rinker. Whiteman added Harry Barris, and named them the Rhythm Boys, and they were a big hit. Crosby was the star of the act, and in 1931 he split from the group, and went solo. He was the number one recording star of the 1930s, and his distinctive style of singing was dubbed "crooning". He had done some singing in movies with the Rhythm Boys at the start of the 1930s, but he soon starting playing dramatic roles in musicals, and was a natural, likable performer, and was very successful in movies in the 1930s. In 1940 he teamed with Dorothy Lamour and Bob Hope for the first of the very successful "Road" movies,
Road to Rio
. When the U.S. entered
WWII
. he added to his huge popularity by doing much entertaining of the troops. In 1942, he sang
White Christmas
on his radio show and used it in his movie,
Holiday Inn
(it would be re-used in the partial re-make of Holiday Inn, White Christmas, in 1954). In 1944 he made his greatest movie,
Going My Way
(winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), which was followed by
The Bells Of St. Mary's
(nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film). In 1954, he also starred in The Country Girl (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film). In 1956 he was in
High Society
, the musical re-make of The Philadelphia Story. Bing Crosby was among the very best selling singers of all time, and also was among the absolute biggest box office draws at the movies! There is no other singer who had as much success as he did in the movies, or vice versa! He passed away in 1977 at the age of 74.

She made five more "sarong pictures" and she also starred in the "

Wizard of Oz
", but she was going to be a "beautiful" witch (similar to Glinda, the Good Witch), but at the last minute, MGM decided to make her "ugly", and she refused, and she dropped out days before filming began, and Margaret Hamilton was cast instead. She passed away in 1985 at the age of 86.
