    Description

Vintage Dynaco A25 two-way stereo speakers excellent.
I purchased these in 2008 but have rarely used them.  The cabs were in excellent condition but the finish was very dull.  The screens were faded and discolored.  Since I already have a full stable of stereo gear, I decided to refinish them and replace the screens.  I've refinished a number of vintage speakers over the years so I'm not a novice at this.  The tops had some water marks that proved to be a challenge to remove, but they are hardly discernible now thanks to a lot of patience and careful sanding.  There are one or two small spots where I used wood filler but those, like the watermarks, are not particularly noticeable (see picture 5).  I use an oil finish on all sides and then add three light applications of satin poly to the tops and bottoms for protection in case one of your buds puts a wet glass on them, or worse yet, your spouse puts a plant on top and the water seeps through the vase and onto the veneer.
Replacing the screens was a first-time project for me.  I purchased screen cloth that looks similar to the original.  Unfortunately, it's not as heavy but it should wear well and it looks good.  I used the original screen frames as they were in good condition.  I removed all of the old material and glue that was stuck on them.  They fit very snugly and I would advise the new owner to leave them on as the both the woofer and tweeter are in perfect condition.  The 10-inch woofers have rubber surrounds that show no signs of deterioration.
I did not replace the crossovers.  I don't detect much difference when adjusting the crossover control, but that has been the case with most speakers I've owned over the years.  I generally set it at the normal level and use a 10-band EQ as a flexible tone control to tailor the sound to my liking.
Please note that the serial numbers are missing on these.  Dynaco used labels, attached to the back of the speakers near the crossover control, with the serial numbers printed on them.  They also printed "Made in Denmark" on the back of the speaker on or around the crossover control and speaker terminals.  However, a perusal of other A25s on eBay (including active listings and ones that were sold) suggests that they did not do this consistently.  To the best of my knowledge (and having owned five pairs of A25s), these are authentic.  I suspect the serial numbers were on these at one time or another, but over the course of their 50 plus years of existence, they either came loose or were removed.
Dynaco speakers are bit dry, in my opinion.  They're laid back, well defined, and not at all fatiguing when listening for an extended period of time.
These may be one of the nicer pairs of Dynaco speakers on eBay.
