Syracuse, N.Y. — A firefighter was bit in the face by a dog Wednesday night trying to help the animal out of a house fire in Eastwood, firefighters said.
Firefighters responded to the house fire at 357-359 Forest Hill Drive around 10:20 p.m. after receiving calls that flames could be seen coming from the house, according to Nicholas Pagano, a deputy chief for the Syracuse Fire Department.
There was also a report that a person and animals were possibly trapped inside, he said.
Firefighters found fire at the back of the two-story home that was spreading to the inside, Pagano said. They were able to contain the fire to the back porch, he said.
Everyone had gotten out of the home by the time firefighters arrived, he said. Firefighters still searched the home to confirm no one was inside.
Firefighters were able to get all the animals out of the house, but a firefighter was bitten in the face by one of the dogs, he said.
The firefighter was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, he said. No one else was injured.
The home has fire and water damage in the back of the structure and smoke damage throughout.
